  • Ellen Kahn Froncek Creative Teaching Award 

    Ellen Kahn Froncek is a strong supporter of the Center for Jewish Education of Rockland. She has been a Creative Teaching Award winner, a CJER intern, CJER Committee Chair, judge of Creative Teaching Awards, teacher of CJER workshops, teacher at Mini-CAJE Conferences, teacher in the LIMUD Teacher Development Institute and a member of every CJER Committee. She is an artist and teacher of Jewish education. She now lives in Maine with her husband Tom. Ellen’s friends and family graciously endowed this award in her honor.

  • Phyllis and Herb Schulman Jewish Educator of the Year Awards 

    Yisroel Schulman, Co-chair of the Center for Jewish Education of Rockland, graciously endowed the Rockland Jewish Educator of the Year Awards in honor of his parents, Phyllis and Herb Schulman.

    Yisroel and his parents are strong supporters of Jewish educational causes in Rockland and all over the world. Yisroel has been the co-chair of the CJER since 1999.

  • Alisa Flatow Memorial Scholarship Fund for Israel Trips
    Scholarship applications are now available for the 2007-2008 academic year for those planning to spend the year studying in Israel. Applications are to be submitted online at www.alisafund.org by February 15, 2007.

    The Alisa Flatow Memorial Scholarship Fund was established by the family of the late Alisa Flatow  after her death in a 1995 terrorist attack in Kfar Darom, Israel. She was spending the year studying in Israel. Applications should be submitted on-line. If the application is downloaded it must be typed or completed in a word processor format before it is submitted. (It is not necessary for a student to be accepted to a school in order to apply.) Questions may be directed to Dr. Wallace Greene, Executive Secretary, from the website.

 

  • American Jewish League for Israel
    The University Scholarship Fund of the American Jewish League for Israel is a scholarship program to assist American students to study in Israel.  The purpose of this program is to foster Jewish spiritual and cultural values through the experience of living in Israel, and at the same time, strengthen the ties that bind Jews in America and Israel.
     
  • B’nai B’rith Career & Counseling Services of New York
    Financial need is considered on a broad basis in order to give students the opportunity of attending a college they may not ordinarily be able to attend due to rising college costs. Any graduating high school senior, who will be attending college next year, is eligible to apply. The only restriction is that applicants must live in the 5 Boroughs of New York City, Nassau/Suffolk Counties, New York State or the New England States.
     
  • Dr. Edward Fisher Youth Israel Scholarship Fund

             The fund will grants one $500 scholarship annually for an Israel summer program. Eligibility requirements include: the applicant be a Jewish student in grade 9-12, living in Rockland County, who demonstrates leadership qualities and community involvement.  This must be the applicant's first organized trip to Israel and it must be an educational program. The student must agree to share his/her experience at community-wide events during the year following their trip.

            Dr. Edward Fisher, a dentist in Tappan and leading philanthropist, has served as councilman for the town of Orangetown for 12 years and a leading member of Federation for 10 years.
     
  • Dr. Kerry Weinberg Youth Israel Scholarship Fund

           This fund grants a scholarship to one student who will be studying in a University in Israel.  Eligibility requirements include: the applicant must be a Jewish student living in Rockland County, attending either public or private school in grades 12.

          Dr. Kerry Weinberg, a Rockland resident, a teacher, professor, poet, author and essayist lived in Israel for 14 years and funds this scholarship so that students may have the same opportunities she had while living in Israel.
     

  • MASA
    The Gateway to Long-term Israel Programs, enables thousands of Jewish young adults to spend a semester or a year in Israel in one of over 100 approved programs by providing information, scholarships and more. 

    MASA's aim is to help young Jews from around the world to build a life-long relationship with Israel and a firm commitment to Jewish life.

    MASA is dedicated to developing new and exciting, quality programs which express the multi-faceted experience of Israel.

  • Ramat Shalom Scholarship

           Established in December of 1969, Ramat Shalom, an egalitarian conservative synagogue in Dexter Park Spring Valley, dedicated itself to giving the children of the member families a meaningful Jewish education in an informal setting. However, in 1997, the synagogue closed and donations from the sale of the synagogue’s assets were made to several organizations including the CJER to create a scholarship fund for Jewish high school students.

           Two scholarships of $500.00 apiece will be awarded to Rockland County high school graduates, one male and one female, to be applied toward their expenses during their first year of post-secondary education.
