register. Classes are held once a week at the Rockland Jewish Community

Three Hundred Years of The American Jewish
Experience – Part I
Talmud For Beginners (in English)
Using the new Steinsaltz translation of the Talmud, we will study an introductory section of Talmud. We will experience the Talmudic method of dialogue to deepen our understanding of why the Talmud, written over 1500 years ago, remains one of the foundations of Judaism.

Judaism and Her Daughters
The Great Books of the Jewish Tradition: What They Are and How to Read Them
Based on the popular volume, "Back to the Sources" by Barry Holtz, this
course will introduce students to five major texts of our tradition: Bible,
Talmud, Bible Commentary, Kabbalah, and Hasidism. A different instructor will
lead each six-week segment. Barbara Birnbaum will lead off with the Bible
section.
Kabbalah Class on Monday Evenings
Kabbalah in the eyes of many is a new movement in itself. The course will delve deeply into mystical writings of the Kabbalah.
The class will meet for 15 Mondays beginning in September from 7-8:15 pm and be taught by Rabbi Scott Bolton

Meet Our Faculty
Barbara Rosenthal Birnbaum, who has an MA in Bible and Ancient Semitic Languages from the Jewish Theological Seminary, teaches biblical texts with a fresh perspective in a number of institutions in Rockland County and beyond.
Rabbi Scott Bolton is a graduate the American Jewish University and is Headmaster at Reuben Gittelman Hebrew Day School.
Leslie Goldress was Director of Education at the New City Jewish Center and this year, is being given an honorary doctorate in pedagogy by the Jewish Theological Seminary for her lifetime of service in Jewish education.
Rabbi Aryeh Meir, director of the Florence Melton Adult Mini-School of Rockland, is a graduate of the Jewish Theological Seminary. Rabbi Meir is spiritual leader of the West Clarkstown Jewish Center and is Dean of Admissions at the Academy for Jewish Religion in New York.
